Today, Sunday 11th February, is the day of hosting Lá Fheile Ghobnatan, Feast and Festival of St. Gobnait, especially related to her bees and honey.
I have not written anything new about St. Gobnait this year, but maybe you would like an encore of the series I posted last year? …

“A great time at the first day of the St Gobnait festival in Ballyvourney where the new replicas of the thirteenth century statue of the saint were unveiled and blessed by the bishop. The original (in the centre) is only brought out on St Gobnait's feast day, 11 February, and is incredibly powerful and evocative, but much worn by so much devotion. On the feast day it is available for pilgrims to wrap with ribbons cut to the length of the statue and to kiss, a ritual that's been going on for hundreds of years. The replica is a marvel and has been done with scrupulous research, even own tot the correct colours of her clothes. The replica (on the right) will be in permanent display in the church along with what's called the 3D model (on the right). Right - off to Lá Fheile Ghobnatan and to pay my respects to the original statue! All the women in the photo by the way are called Gobnait!”
