I have heard that the word ‘Booleying’ was built up from the foundation word of ‘Bo’ which is an ancient word for a ‘cow’, and maybe a ‘bull’ too. Extend that and we venture through a word ‘Buaile’ that seems to translate out as describing an enclosure, or area, for milking cattle, or goats, on a highland pasture.
